August 4, 2010 General Computer Meeting
Meeting Call to Order - 7pm - approx 28 people attended

Mac Group - George introduced our new large monitor. His group talked about
virtual personal network tunnels to remain anonymous on the internet, WYTOPEIA
and how to use it.
Photo Group - Harold Spatz and Martha Esposito
Martha presented part 3 of Photography 101. She reviewed the previous lessons
and showed the group examples of depth of field and how it relates to your
aperture settings on a camera. The personal challenge for the month is to try
out depth of field with your camera by setting your camera to about 2x telephoto
and then taking the same photo with a setting on landscape and then on either
portrait or flower or macro and seeing the difference in the depth of field. Be
sure have a background that is a few feet behind the subject to see the
difference.
One on One Instruction: Remember to fill out the form at front dest and a
qualified instructor will call and set the time and date for your lesson.
Speaker: Jeff Arnold, president of Pocket-Promo, presented the new concept of
text message and mobile marketing. He discussed how it works and how to opt in
and out of marketing ads for coupons. Short codes will be given out and you can
present the code to the vendor and he will honor the coupon. The FCC protects
your from Spam.
Jeff and his colleagues offered to speak to people after the meeting and also
help them to learn how to text on their phones.
Photo Contest: The photos were shown from the contest ending July 25, 2010
and then the winners were announced and certificates given out.
Door Prizes given out.
